A Crepe
A Crepe is a local business specializing in sweet and savory French-style artisan crepes. He opened A-Crepe in 2018 in the King of Prussia mall in Pennsylvania and expanded to a second location in Queens, New York, in 2019.
The owner, David Liu, came to the US from Fuzhou, China in 1991 and has worked in the food industry for over a decade. He started as a delivery boy at a multinational pizza chain, worked at a Chinese buffet restaurant, and was later promoted to a crepe franchise manager.
He opened A-Crepe due to his wife and daughter’s love of crepes. Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, he immediately saw the potential to open up his own crepe shop. The letter “A” in the logo indicates excellent quality. It also resembles a crepe when the logo is upside down!
Unfortunately, during the pandemic, David had to let his workers go and close the Pennsylvania location. While his family resides in Pennsylvania, he is working hard in NYC to grow his Queens location to eventually hire and train future employees and franchise owners.
He almost lost his Flushing store when a major food delivery platform made nine withdrawals from his bank account without permission or notice. Like many immigrants who do not speak English, David struggled to communicate with the food delivery platform. Thankfully, he retrieved his money with the help of a long-time customer, Eric Leung. Eric is so devoted to the business that he now helps out at the store pro bono. He helped David create a website, run his Instagram page, and take beautiful product shots!
David's crepes are all handmade with love and care. In addition, they are low-calorie and gluten-free! Even the custard and whipped cream are homemade. We tried the spicy shrimp avocado salad crepe, tropical delight pizza crepe, and strawberry cheesecake crepe. Not only are the crepes delicious, but also light on the stomach.
Make sure to support David’s crepe shop next time you’re in Flushing!
