S. Wan Cafe
S. Wan Cafe is a family-run Hong Kong-style diner (cha chan teng) that opened in 2006. The current owners, Alex Cheng and Sandy Wong, purchased the business from the previous owners after being loyal customers for many years. As Hong Kong natives, they wanted to share the food they grew up eating with the local community!
This mom-and-pop shop serves authentic Hong Kong comfort foods like macaroni soup, French toast, and breakfast combos. But what they are most known for is their Hong Kong-style milk tea for only $2.50!
Brewing Hong Kong-style milk tea is an art. “If you brew it too long, it’ll be too bitter. Too short, and it won’t have enough flavor,” explained Mr. Cheng. Many fans even proclaim that it is the best Hong Kong-style milk tea in NYC! Try it out and let us know what you think.
Fun fact: The Chinese name of the cafe, 洋紫荊, means Bauhinia. The iconic flower is the emblem of Hong Kong and is even on its flag!
